Here are some interesting Mount Everest facts for kids. These facts will give basic knowledge about the highest mountain in the world to the kids.

1. The height of Mount Everest is 8,848 meters (29,035 feet).

2. It is about 60 million years old.

3. Every year it grows taller by approximately 4 milimeters.

4. It is more than ten times taller than the Burj Khalifa, which is the tallest man-made structure.

5.  Mount Everest was first called Peak XV. And later its official name was kept as Everest after the then Surveyor General of India Sir George Everest.

6. In Tibetan language, it is called Chomolungma, which means “Goddess Mother of the Universe”. And in Nepali language, it is called Sagarmatha, which means “the head of the sky”.

7. The mountain is in the border of Nepal and China.

8. At Mount Everest, the wind can blow over 200 meters per hour and the temperature can drop up to -80 Fahrenheit.

9. Its neighboring peaks are: Lhotse (8,516 meters), Nuptse (7,855 meters) and Changtse (7,580 meters).

10. It was first climbed in 1953 by Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary.

11. There are two routes to climb Mount Everest. One is from the south in Nepal and another from the north in Tibet.

13. And, a small black jumping spider lives at Mount Everest.
